FAQs – ECU Programming & Motorcycle tuning at PKB Performance
-
What is ECU programming?
The ECU (Engine Control Unit) controls all the important engine parameters – from injection and ignition to torque limiters. With ECU programming or an ECU flash, we customize these maps to your specific motorcycle.
Goal: More power, better drivability, optimal throttle response – motorsport proven and field tested.
-
How long does ECU programming take?
A standard ECU tuning usually takes 1–2 hours.
One individual test bench tuning It takes longer because the motorcycle is measured and adjusted multiple times. For this, a Appointment required.
-
Where is the ECU programming performed?
All ECU programming and map optimizations are performed right here in our house.
We use our own Performance test bench for professional voting.
Alternatively, you can send us your control unit by post – we will carry out the programming and send it back as soon as possible.
-
Will I lose my warranty if I tune the ECU?
Manufacturer warranties may be limited or voided by ECU tuning. We recommend checking this with your dealer or manufacturer beforehand. Many customers opt for tuning after the warranty period has expired.
-
Is ECU tuning legal and compliant with German road traffic regulations (StVO)?
ECU optimization is usually Not approved for road use, as it alters the original homologation.
Our ECU programming is therefore considered Racing/Export items to understand.
They can be used without restriction on the racetrack.
-
What is a quickshifter (QS)?
A quickshifter enables Shifting gears without the clutch and without letting off the gas.
The result: lightning-fast gear changes, more stable handling and more driving fun – whether on the road or the racetrack.
-
What is a fuel cut-off (fuel crackle/fuel popping sound)?
During overrun fuel cut-off, the injection is interrupted during overrun mode.
This causes Crisp popping noises from the exhaust and can be combined with quickshifter systems to achieve even shorter shift times.
-
What is a flame limiter?
The Flame Limiter ensures spectacular flames from the exhaust at the rev limiter.
Through precise control of injection & The ignition produces the typical racing sound – and the matching show to go with it!
The best way to see it is to see for yourself – Click here to watch the video!
-
What does a regular ECU tuning entail?
Adjustment of the Injection maps
Optimization of the Ignition maps
Adaptation to Exhaust system & Fuel quality
Distance from Torque and speed limiters (model dependent)
Activation of additional features such as Quickshifter, Launch Control, Overrun Cut-off
The result: noticeably more driving pleasure, healthy engine running, powerful performance & Increased torque.
-
Can I have my motorcycle restored to its original condition?
Yes – we back up your original ECU software and can flash back to the factory settings at any time.
-
How much does ECU programming cost?
Prices vary depending on the model, control unit and desired scope.
Standard programming starts from €50; individual test bench tuning is calculated separately.
-
Do you also offer suspension modifications?
Yes – besides ECU programming, we are also your partner for Chassis optimizations and chassis modifications.
We are official service center for Öhlins & TracTive and authorized dealer for YSS Suspension.
Regardless of whether Service, modification, individual tuning or complete chassis tuning – We get the most out of your motorcycle.
Our chassis work is carried out in-house and can be directly combined with ECU tuning or dyno work.
-
Why can you do all that?
Because we are not just a workshop, but a team of specialists with diverse backgrounds.
We combine experience from motorsport, workshop practice, software and electronics development, as well as chassis and engine technology.
We use this knowledge in a combined way.
-
How many people are behind PKB?
All together we are a team of 7 people!
-
Are you also familiar with the topic of engine tuning?
Of course! We tune and develop engine parts – from cylinder heads and camshafts to compression modifications, we are your contact.
